FENG SHUI, FITNESS AND FUN

Positive, constant flow of good Qi or energy is the basis of Feng Shui. This energy comes to us from the cosmos, Sun, Moon, Planet Earth and the five elements of earth, metal, wood, water and fire. When the flow of healthy Qi comes into us through our breath, our mind, our heart emotions, our food, and our activities, then we are in a harmonious balance of “Fulfilling Feng Shui Fitness™.” Perhaps when you consider Fitness from the three aspects of Energy, Balance and Harmony within Feng Shui, you may have a new, exciting and lasting perspective on how to stay fit and have FUN at the same time.

We know from Quantum Mechanics that everything in the universe is Energy of one type or another. Every part of being human is energy – spiritual soul energy, mental energy traced in beta-alpha-theta-delta brainwaves, emotional energy, muscle energy, digestive energy, heart-lung oxygenation energy, cellular energy, and mitochondrial energy within each cell.

We receive energy from within the Universal Field, the One Unified Source of All That Is. Cosmic radiation is constantly energizing us from galaxies far away; Vaastu calls this etheric or akashic prana. The Sun feeds us with adamantine particles of light, giving us mental energy, positive emotions, Vitamin D, and growth for plants and animals that feed us.

According to the principles of Vaastu Shastra and Feng Shui, there is a balance of masculine-feminine or yang-yin that feeds us from the Sun and Moon, respectively. The positive, life-giving, active yang Sun energy is undoubtedly necessary to our survival. The receptive, life-receiving, absorbing yin Moon energy is part of our makeup and functioning, allowing us to restore during sleep. The right side of the body is yang, the left side yin. We have receptors at differing levels of physiology for receiving all these yang and yin cosmic and local energies.

Some of these energies we need to receive are terrestrial. Exercising outdoors allows us to absorb positive prana or energy from the trees and wood Qi, heavenly sky or air Qi, flowing water Qi, activating fire Qi, strengthening metal Qi, and grounding earth magnetic Qi. This is one reason to walk, hike, bike, swim, and play outdoor games. You are experiencing your revitalization through all these positive, life-giving energies.
If you can’t do your exercises outdoors, open the windows and doors in your workout space, and be able to look at and draw in energies from the trees and sky.

Spiritually connect with your Source, your soul, when you exercise. The soul wants to inhabit the body and move, play, be free, flow, en-joy, dance and strengthen. Feng Shui is all about the flow. When you connect spiritually, you embody your physical form in ways that are exciting, evolutionary and even ecstatic. You are searching for the “Zone” of enduring happiness, joy and love. Spiritual openness in exercise can give you this.

Our breath is paramount to being fit, staying youthful, anti-aging, keeping healthy, and thinking and feeling joyful and animated in our life. I found training in yogic breathwork or pranayama a key ingredient. I’ve been doing Conscious Continuous Deep Breathing for decades now. What a great energizer, stress reliever, mind awakener, emotional releaser, and physical powerhouse. Find out more about this natural birthright.

Mind is the creator of everything. What you think, you become. What you do not think, you will never become. Think of yourself as having fun exercising, feeling and being fit, being full of energy, being your optimal size. Let positive thoughts flow through your mind before, during and after exercising. You will see how much more you enjoy the experience of being in the “Now Zone of Fulfilling Fitness.” Let your mind bring the powerful thoughts to your body as you exercise; you might notice you have more stamina, strength and power in your muscles during your workout. Try it!

Emotions and passions are amazing motivators for staying fit. When you activate your feelings for a particular sport, or workout regime, you are more likely to stay with it. Ask yourself, “Do I prefer solitary, duo or team sports?” Based on this, you may choose to try some sports in these areas.

Then there are the manifold benefits of working out with a trainer. Over my lifetime, starting in University, I’ve had nine personal trainers. The one I’m with now is perfect for me. We have so much fun and I am easily able to move beyond my prior restrictions in terms of lifting weights, repetitions on machines, flexibility, strength, stamina. Make sure you’re having fun or it just won’t work as well. It has to be a good fit all around.

Biochemically, we know that when we work out and find our “Zone” our brain and nerve cells emit powerful natural “highs” called endorphins and enkephalins. They create sensations of wellbeing, strength, joy, peace, love and openness. When was the last time you worked out and felt these natural hormones? This might be worth experiencing.

In terms of food, we know that optimal foods are balanced between protein, good natural fatty acids and some carbohydrates. Less is more. Organic is best. Fruits and vegetables and non-meat proteins like nuts and legumes work well. Skip the dairy and cheese. Skip the sugar and desserts. Eat six times a day, not three. Water is essential – 8 by 8 rule – eight eight-ounce glasses daily. Clean, lean energy from food is best for your overall health and body fitness.

Balance all your daily exercise of at least 30 – 45 minutes with an early afternoon nap, small snacks all day, 8 – 10 hours of good sleep before 10 PM, along with refreshing, energizing work.

Harmonize your life with the continuous positive flow of breath and energies day and night. Bring more joy and harmony through times of laughter, loving, relaxation and healthy meals with your family and friends.

Feng Shui principles and activities of flowing good Qi are central to a new way of creating your “Fulfilling Feng Shui Fitness™.”
